Making an Impact

Local Impact

Each year members of the giving circle determine a focus to improve our region by funding unmet needs. After the focus and criteria is decided and posted on the web, grant applications are accepted and voted on by the members of the giving circle.

Some giving circles have been formed around addressing a specific need.  While our Giving Circle has committed to a global need, future members will make the decisions about local/regional funding commitments.

Global Impact

Half of all giving circle donations goes to South Sudan Medical Relief, a non-profit providing medical care, education, and community development in Old Fangak, South Sudan. Longtime Bethel resident, Dr. Jill Seaman, founded this project and spends half of every year in South Sudan. We join many others in the YK Delta who are passionate about helping the people in South Sudan and supporting Dr. Jill in her endeavors.

Your donation is split equally into meeting immediate needs and into an investment fund to meet future needs. Giving circle funds are routed to SSMR through Crosscurrents International which is the US-based organization Dr. Jill has used to convey funds to her project internationally. Learn more about SSMR at www.southsudanmedicalrelief.org.

Our goal is to create an endowment for SSMR which will continue to support the project indefinitely. After the endowment goal is met the giving circle may choose a new global focus.
